Let’s Get To Know French: The Second Most Widely Used Language

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Do you have an idea of the number of people in this entire world who can speak French? It is estimated that around 200 million of the world’s population actually speak French. This number includes folks who talk French as a local language, as a 2nd language and scholars of every age who don’t live in a francophone (means French -speaking) country, but have learned French.

In reality French as a foreign language is the second most frequently taught language worldwide after English. It’s also the sole foreign language that may be handy across the world as well as in the U. S. . French comes in second after English on the list of the planet’s’s ten most influential languages. Explanation of this is the vital role that French holds. It is one of the official working languages in many dynamic world organisations like the EU Union     ( ECU ), United States ( UN ), World Health Organisation ( WHO ), World Trade Organisation ( WTO ), and a number of other worldwide establishments.

The French language of today is a clear result of extended periods of evolution. The most distinguished of these are the Franks. They adopted the Latin being spoken at that point. Therefore , the French language is a descendant from Latin. It’s also known as one of the Love languages which include Catalan, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese. They are called such because their parent tongue Latin was the language of the Romans. The French-speaking world spans the whole world with its language heard in all the continents. Apart from English, French is the only language spoken as a local or first language on five continents.

In Europe, French is the officially sanctioned language of France, Luxembourg, Monaco, Belgium and Switzerland. France with a population of more than sixty million is one of the most modern states in the globe. It is one of the predominant leading players in the Western european Union.

French is a co-official language in Switzerland. This beautiful country is one of the planet’s’s wealthiest countries. It is the centre of many global associations.

Belgium, in the half past century, has appeared as a progressive EU state. Brussels, the capital of Belgium, is home to the HQ of the Western european Union and the North Atlantic Contract Organisation ( NATO ).

In the Americas and the Caribbean, French is spoken in Canada, Haiti, French Guiana, Martinique and Guadeloupe ( these last 3 are French territories ).

In Australia and the Pacifics, Vanuatu and the overseas French territories French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Wallis and Fortuna are French-speaking.

A few of these nations are Andorra, Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, Cape Verde, Egypt, Greece, India, Italy, Laos, Lebanon, Mauritania, Poland, Syria, Trinidad and Tobago, UK ( Channel Islands ), US especially Louisiana and New England, the Vatican Town and Vietnam. Obviously , the French language is spoken everywhere.

Having known all these things about French, are you now convinced to also learn this so-called Love language? It may not be that easy, but a lot of websites and books are now available to help one study a foreign language such as this with ease.

Gaining Perspective As Taught By My Latin Dictionary

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

In a lot of ways, I did not consider myself much of a student, most specifically if we are talking about being confined in the classroom and be you know, a “student”. Don’t think otherwise, I have always liked studying, but put me inside the classroom for months and I don’t think there will be anything much to be done to keep me from getting bored and not even the most interesting subjects would get me fascinated. I actually have no any real concept of how I was able to make it through four years of college. My Latin class particularly almost  had the power to destroy my school career. I’m sure that I could have quit college had it not been for my Latin dictionary.

I realized the prior statement may seem acute, but it’s right. I was so sick of the pressures of my Latin class in school that I almost dropped out of school. I think I did not have things in the best viewpoint, but that’s how hugely the Latin class has put impact in my life. In the 6th week of the 15-week class, I called my dad on the telephone and eventually told him of the truth of my current predicament. He simply listened and then giggled at me and muttered two words – “Latin dictionary”. I hadn’t got any idea how much I wished to hear those two words nor how much they might change my semester and literally the remainder of my life.

I have positively no idea why my Latin professor failed to suggest that I purchase a Latin dictionary. I am essentially a little sour about it now that I mull it over. Anyhow, I rushed off to a book shop the following day and acquired the least expensive and largest Latin compendium I could find. I had little cash, but I felt like bigger must be better when it came to a compendium.

Over the weeks and days ahead, I poured over that compendium as I studied for my Latin class. Having that resource taught me a superb amount that I just was not getting in the school room. I pulled my grade up from a failing score to a B in the remaining weeks of the class. But that is not all that took place : I had a replenished love of learning. Yes, of course the Latin dictionary was responsible for my new-found interest in learning things and acquiring knowledge in many areas.

It actually did insignificant  to make me enjoy time in a lecture room, but it probably did evoke me to chase a lot of the things I now love. It probably made me realized that something so difficult may be turned into something interesting if you put a little perspective into it, like what the Latin dictionary taught me.

Learning A New Language The Spanish Way

Monday, March 1st, 2010

There are various reasons why one would want to learn to speak Spanish. One is that maybe you are arranging a vacation or work trip to a Spanish-talking country or perhaps you are thinking about emigrating. It may be that you do not truly need to communicate Spanish at all, but you just simply need to assert that you can. Having the ability to communicate in another language definitely gives you a great sense of attainment.

For a very long time I had wished to learn another language, and for whatever reason I have always been drawn to Spanish. I suspect one reason was my limited knowledge about Spain at that time somehow appealed to my sense of good living. The ambiance, beautiful women, beaches, and the sand. Naturally there’s much more to Spain than this, except that for me, Spain and the Spanish language held more appeal than say French or German did. Though I had needed to learn Spanish for a very long time I assume the real reason why I eventually made a decision to be proactive about it was because I was organizing a long trip to Central and South America.

I was just about to pass through as much as nineteen different states where the official countrywide language was Spanish. Since that time Spanish and all things that are Spanish both in Spain and in Latin America have literally taken me over. I would not have thought it then, but now Spanish is part of my everyday life. I will talk, read and understand Spanish to the point at which I haven’t got to consider it too much. When folks ask me if I will talk Spanish fluently I’m always a little nervous to say yes. The reality is that although I’ll communicate in Spanish with relative ease I don’t believe that I know enough. There are always new phrases and words to learn for instance and naturally these alter from country to country. I suspect one of the largest tests for me is having the ability to sit in front of the Television with una cerveza ( a beer ) and watch a Spanish soap opera ( una telenovela ) or a Spanish flick and really understand everything that is happening.

After all, if I will do that in English why should I not be ready to do the same in Spanish? Well, I need to say that I am clearly not there yet but almost.

So, how will I go from not knowing a single word of Spanish ( aside from – gracias and amigo ), to being in a position to read a Spanish book, talk to a Spanish-speaking chum or watch a Spanish telenovela? Well, the solution to that is what I am planning to do in the coming days.

It’s not that I am going to lie to you and say the journey was a simple one. The reality is that learning a totally new language needs time and requires a good deal of patience and commitment. What I need to convey at that point is that anyone can do it if they really need to. By that, I mean considering what it is you would like to achieve and how you mean to go about achieving it.

You aren’t going to learn Spanish overnight and I believe it is sensible to prepare yourself for the challenges ahead. Learning a whole new language should be enjoyable and there is not any reason why it should not be so long as you realize your constraints. In no fashion do I consider myself to be a person that has a natural flare for languages. I guess what I am making an attempt to say is, is if I can do it, then believe that anybody else can. You just have to choose which language you want to learn first and just enjoy the adventure of learning it.

Capturing The World Through Language Enhancement

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

In this modern age and with globalization at its height, knowing one or two secondary languages has become more than a straightforward undertaking of high class and intelligence, but also a stern need in numerous occasions.

Either for professional, social or private reasons, learning one foreign language is an absolute must for anybody that wants to keep their head up high in today’s society. Let us take a focused look on five of the most important reasons that should turn you towards learning a foreign language.

Many professions need the awareness of one or two foreign languages, relative to the their jobs. Most roles may suggest that you know a world language like English, French, Spanish or German or a business-specific language like Chinese, Japanese, Russian and that kind of stuff. If you are a local English speaker you could have it a bit less complicated, since English is the main global language ( and one that is mostly present in job descriptions ) but knowing a secondary might also prove crucial.

Another reason would be in the social aspect. There’s definitely a steep hill to climb between being presented as somebody that doesn’t know any foreign language at all against being presented as a polyglot. Another case when knowing a foreign language can be literally a social blessing is when meeting a foreigner whose language you can talk of. They will be very impressed with your capability to converse with them thru their own local tongue, though you are on home grounds and this fact can single handedly make a great impression around you. If the foreigner actually is part of a business meeting, this impression can turn to a successful business partnership, bringing you both professionally and socially satisfied.

It’s frequently the case where a pair formed out of folks of various nationalities understand one another thru an ordinarily known global language like English. They’ll shortly need to start to learn the other person’s main language, not only for a better communication, but also because of respect for them. Learning a foreign language is one of the highest intellectual goals that one might have, on a private scale. Think about a difficult puzzle or maths problem that takes months if not years of relentless studying to be disentangled. The method of solving it could be a tough, strenuous one but the scream of joy at the end is definitely worth it.

It is the same case with learning a foreign language : the training process is not very easy and you could have many tiny issues and problems to take on on the way. You’ll need to target diverse facets of the difficulty ,eg spelling, grammar, reading, pronunciation and that kind of stuff. If you keep the issue in sight however and if you do not lose interest in it, the possibilities of resolving it are very high and the intellectual accomplishment that you get at the end is incomparable to anything more.

Have you yourself ever considered learning another language? It is definitely an adventure when you are able to learn one. Imagine all the things you can do and the places you can go to if you are actually able to communicate with various people in the world. I must say that I myself have become interested in studying another language after making this article.
